Aug 3-6 Filberg Festival

Set among the stately trees and gardens of the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park in Comox on the east coast of Vancouver Island the Filberg Festival is truly a unique event. Wander through the grounds surrounded by beautiful gardens, rustic out-buildings and magnificent views of Comox Harbour and the Beaufort Mountain Range. The principal objective of the Filberg Festival has been to encourage excellence in all forms of arts and crafts, and to assist in the promotion and sale of quality work.

The Festival has established a world-wide reputation for the excellence of the work of its juried artisans, and today is one of western Canada’s largest juried outdoor arts show. Over 300 people volunteer each year to make this event a reality. The Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park Association (FHLPA) is a non-profit organization established in 1979, which is responsible for maintaining and restoring the heritage lodge and outbuildings in the Filberg Park. The Filberg Festival, held annually, is the Associations largest fundraiser and the Comox Valley’s premiere cultural event. All funds raised from this and other fundraising activities are used for this purpose and for the operational costs associated with managing the Filberg Park for the community to enjoy.

Aug 16-19 Roots & Blues Fest

Produced in the picturesque setting Shuswap Lake, Roots and Blues is a festival that takes place on the third weekend of every August.  From humble beginnings of stand alone folk shows in Salmon Arm community halls, Roots and Blues has grown into a major western Canadian outdoor event that attracts visitors from around the world. The festival has also hosted legends like Buddy Guy, Bruce Cockburn, Ian Tyson, Buffy Sainte- Marie, Mavis Staples, Arlo Guthrie, Serena Ryder, K’naan, Feist, Taj Mahal, and Steve Earle.

Daytime workshops are renowned for delivering high voltage performances with artists who were introduced backstage before becoming fast friends on Roots and Blues stages. The enthusiasm and spirit of the performers becomes contagious when the festival gates open, and long after the festival ends.

Produced by the not-for-profit Salmon Arm Folk Music Society, the Roots and Blues Festival has also been applauded for continuing to help inspire emerging artists from the region as well as presenting some of the province’s most respected musical ambassadors such as Colin James, Kiran Ahluwalia, and Jim Byrnes.
