✓ Sept 9 Hills Garlic Festival

The Hills Garlic Festival is held each year on the Sunday following Labour Day. This year, the 26th Annual Festival will take place on September 9, 2018, at Centennial Park in New Denver, BC.

With the theme Homemade – Homegrown – Organic, more than 160 vendors will be selling bulk garlic, braided garlic, seed garlic, garlic powder, garlic syrup, pickled garlic, garlic dips, and garlic snacks; fresh organic produce; plants and plant products; local crafts of jewelry, glass, wood, furniture, pottery, textiles, metal, and stones; soaps, lotions, and herbal remedies; and lots of great food, including Thai, Mexican, Asian, BBQ, hamburgers and hot dogs, baking, chocolates, ice cream, and other delicious snacks.

The Hills Garlic Festival has been recognized as one of the ten best Garlic Festivals. Many vendors tell us this is their favorite event of the craft fair/festival season. With our commitment to a Zero Waste Event, we are a leader in the festival industry and are always striving for improvement

Live music and family entertainment all day on two stages. Contests provide the opportunity to win for heaviest garlic clove, largest garlic bulb, prettiest braid or wreath, and best garlic themed poem. Win a basket of sample goods donated by our vendors by purchasing raffle tickets from the Hills Recreation Society.

Walk, ride the shuttle bus, peddle your bicycle, paddle your kayak…however you get there, we look forward to seeing you at this unique community event for the whole family!

The Garlic Festival takes place at Centennial Park in New Denver, 3 blocks west of Highway 6. The park is located on the shores of beautiful Slocan Lake with views of Valhalla Provincial Park. The grounds are reasonably flat and are wheelchair accessible through any gate.

Admission is $5.00 payable in cash on entry. Children under 12 are free. One complimentary pass is available from parking volunteers for each vehicle with 5 or more occupants.

There is no cash machine at the Garlic Festival and most vendors cannot accept credit cards.

✓ Aug 4-7 Filberg Festival

Set among the stately trees and gardens of the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park in Comox on the east coast of Vancouver Island the Filberg Festival is truly a unique event. Wander through the grounds surrounded by beautiful gardens, rustic out-buildings and magnificent views of Comox Harbour and the Beaufort Mountain Range. The principal objective of the Filberg Festival has been to encourage excellence in all forms of arts and crafts, and to assist in the promotion and sale of quality work.

The Festival has established a world-wide reputation for the excellence of the work of its juried artisans, and today is one of western Canada’s largest juried outdoor arts show. Over 300 people volunteer each year to make this event a reality. The Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park Association (FHLPA) is a non-profit organization established in 1979, which is responsible for maintaining and restoring the heritage lodge and outbuildings in the Filberg Park. The Filberg Festival, held annually, is the Associations largest fundraiser and the Comox Valley’s premiere cultural event. All funds raised from this and other fundraising activities are used for this purpose and for the operational costs associated with managing the Filberg Park for the community to enjoy.
